Our story

For more than a century, Purslowe & Chipper Funerals has been part of life in Western Australia – offering trusted personalised care to generations of families.

A tradition of service, built over generations

Our origins stretch back to the earliest days of the Swan River Colony. John Chipper arrived in 1829 and laid the foundation for what would become Chipper Funerals in 1889 – one of WA’s longest-serving funeral homes.

At the same time, James Purslowe – wheelwright, preacher and early settler – was helping families in Northam through their times of loss. By 1907, Purslowe Funerals had become a full-time operation, built on a commitment to guiding families through farewells with warmth and reverence.

Today, these two trusted names have come together as Purslowe & Chipper Funerals, with more than 235 years of combined experience supporting communities across Perth, Rockingham, Mandurah and beyond.
