At Purslowe & Chipper Funerals we help bring your family together to arrange a funeral service that truly celebrates and honours the life and values of your loved one.
Most of our funeral directors have been in the industry for more than 10 years, and offer families a wide range of funeral service options from our 10 funeral homes and chapels.
Chipper Funerals has been serving families in Western Australia since 1889. Chipper is a name long associated with the history of Western Australia. John Chipper arrived three months after the commencement of the Swan River Colony in 1829, and started to carve out a career for himself.
John’s grandchild Donald J Chipper and his wife Florence founded a funeral home in Murray Street before moving to Hay Street. The Chipper family is extremely proud of the contribution made by Florence who ran the family business for more than 10 years after her husband died. Since then two more generations of Chippers have continued the tradition of providing care and support to families in the community.
Purslowe Funerals has been meeting the funeral needs of the people and communities of Perth and surrounding areas since 1907.
The Purslowe Funerals story began with James William Purslowe who moved to Western Australia during the gold rush of the late 1800s. A wheelwright by trade, James was called on by local undertakers to make coffins and often assisted with their duties.
As a Methodist lay preacher James observed the importance of a funeral service to families and he was requested by the elders of his community to take on the role of a funeral director.
By 1907 Purslowe Funerals was operating full-time from its premises in Northam.
Two more generations of Purslowes continued to deliver funeral services and expand the business over the years. The current generation includes Colin and Mark Purslowe who have served as past presidents of the Western Australian divisions of the Australian Funeral Directors Association and in 2003 both were awarded the AFDA's highest honour, the Master Funeral Director.
Purslowe Funerals and Chipper Funerals came together in 2017 and bring more than 235 years of combined experience in serving families in our local communities in and around Perth, Rockingham, Mandurah and surrounding areas of Western Australia.
We believe that every funeral service should be unique, and there are no set rules for where or how to hold a funeral. Our funeral directors can help you arrange a personalised service at any location of significance including churches, parks, beaches, and wineries. We also offer repatriation services worldwide.
Purslowe & Chipper Funerals has all the facilities you might need to arrange and hold your loved one’s funeral in a chapel setting, including complete audio-visual equipment, function rooms for catering an after-funeral service for guests, and condolence lounges.
With our professional expertise we can turn what can be a worrying and stressful time into a well-run event. Our funeral directors are highly skilled in bringing everything together for a funeral service in a very short timeframe, while giving you the time to plan exactly the funeral you want. The funeral director will manage all the paperwork on your behalf, and liaise with the suppliers for you, so that you can focus on yourself, your family and the other guests.
Community involvement is at the very heart of our business. Our funeral directors are well-established and connected in the local communities they serve.
They believe in giving back to our community and work hard to network and foster relationships with local nursing homes, charities, churches, and sporting and social clubs.
Purslowe & Chipper Funerals has a long association with Variety Club, Rotary, Lions, Anglicare, Zonta, Italian and Portuguese clubs, Hellenic communities, Macedonian clubs, Men’s Sheds, Retirees WA, Light Horse Brigade, RSL, and many others.
